50 Shades of something. . . .

6 Jun

So like I have said before, I LOVE READING!! It will always be my #1 Hobby!!

That being said, I don’t always love what I read. For example I tried to read Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game. Which is right up my alley and I am fond of Stephen King (mostly his short stories) but I could not get through this book. I was not excited to read it and I didn’t want to go to bed early just so I could read.

For me, this is a bad sign. This was the first book I stopped reading mid-way through. And after that I realized (although it’s hard for me) that I can stop reading a book if I don’t like it.

Unfortunately I didn’t follow that rule when I read 50 Shades of Grey.

I think I wanted to like it so bad I powered through it! And to be fair it was not soo bad. Ahhh who am I kidding it was trash!

But – I read trash and often like it.. This was just a different kind of trash and it’s my own fault. I like murder, gory, mystery, zombie, crazy, disturbing books. I personally would classify 50 Shades as a cheesy, romantic VERY soft core porn novel.

And I am not a crazy religious, old school thinking person when it comes to sex in a book. I actually think it’s ridiculous all press this book is getting for the “sex” in it. Yes the two main characters have sex a lot. So much so it gets a little old after the first few times. I hope that does not make me sound like a (insert whatever noun you like here) I just didn’t think it was anything to freak out about!

I also think it’s ridiculous that this book is being compared to porn – it’s not porn. And if this is what mommy porn is – than I feel a little bad for the mommies, they should look into renting some hard core porn and then compare.

However, I did finish the first book and bought the second book – but I am stuck in the middle of the second book and can’t get myself to read anymore! If a zombie, murder or some kind of plot does not pop up in the next few pages I think I am done. I will be fine reading what happens in Wikipedia.

Don’t get me wrong – people obviously LOVE this book – it’s just not for me. It’s not my typical genre and I should have known that before I bought it. So for all you 50 Shades and Christian Grey lovers don’t hate me:(

What are your thoughts on 50 Shades of Grey? Should I finish the second book?

Yeah I will be interested to see what you think about it. We typically have very similar taste in books, movies and news articles 

My 80 something year old mom can’t wait to get it from NM State Library on tape. How many details will she fill me in on? Will it be something she wants her 50 something year old daughter to read?

Hahaha! I don’t know what detail she will fill you in on. . . . Maybe you should read it before her. Don’t listen to it with her – that could be awkward! I would actually love to hear it on tape and see what the voices sound like. I imagine listening to it on tape would make it a little more cheesy! Let me know how it goes! Hope all is well with you 

I read them all in 5 days. I became obsessed like a crazy woman. Keep reading, more definitely happens! I also think it’s stupid that people call it porn or mommy porn. Definitely not hard core enough for porn. Anyhow, by the end of the trilogy, I must say I was missing having Christian Grey in my life and I was in love with him. I think I quickly engross myself with a book and wish I was in it. hmmmm….

Ok Theresa – I will keep reading…. If I think it’s a waste of time you owe me a drink when we go to Vegas! I bet we can find a Christian Grey Drink somewhere 🙂
