My Heart Will Go On Now That The Olympics Are Over….

13 Aug

Now that the Olympics are over I can resume my normal life.

I can do stuff after work and go to sleep at an acceptable time.

I was obsessed with the Olympics and stayed up entirely too late every night to see what happened because for some reason if I didn’t I felt like I would be missing history!

On the other hand, I did learn a lot.

I got really good at understanding the rules of Fencing and Archery. I am expanding my soccer I mean football skills – I can now identify offside’s if they go slow. And now I understand the scoring system of diving.

I got really defensive of some of my beloved sports, especially gymnastics! Being a cheerleader my whole life and being required to go to gymnastic as part of that. Also my beloved sister-in-law WAS a gymnast her whole life. And now she is a coach. So when people would say oh that’s easy or I am totally going to train and try out for the next Olympics It totally offended me! Even though 99.9% of those people were just kidding. But those girls work so hard from age 4 to get where they are.

I feel like the only sport you might take up late in life and have an Olympic shot at would be Shooting. And I probably just offended a lot of shooters. Sorry.

I also go mad at the closest person next to me (usually the husband – sorry) when the US was losing. Like they could do anything to help. And as I am typing this the US women’s Volleyball team is sucking it up.

I also go totally emotional for stupid reasons. Any time someone was so happy they won I would feel like I won and maybe I cried a lot little. Any time a country had not won an event in a long time then they did I would cry! When nations came together I would cry! What’s wrong with me!?!

What the Olympics is all about!

I also learned about the people. I noticed that Turkey had some hot athletes. Athletes love to tape themselves up with kinetic athletic tape and it’s made in Albuquerque!

I learned I need to calm down and not be so intense about something that is going to happen again in four years. Actually two for the Winter Games!

So I am going to work on that – and try to enjoy the entertainment.

FRACK! USA just lost gold in women’s volleyball! WTF!!!!!!

My top five favorite Olympians

Jesse Owens – USA

Jesse Owens

Jess Owens was part of the 1936 Olympic in Hitler’s Germany. He made history when he won four gold medals in the following events:

–          100 meters

–          200 meters

–          The long jump

–          And as part of the 4×100 meter relay team

When I was in middle school I read a book about his life and I think that is why I like him so much! He has an amazing story before the Olympics, during and after. Read all about him here.

Nadia Comaneci – Romania

The Romanian gymnast has won 5 gold medals, 3 silver and 1 bronze throughout her Olympic career.  Nadia is the first gymnast to ever achieve a perfect 10. Something people though impossible – the score board (I think that’s what it’s called) could not even display the score. It showed a 1.0 confusing some people.

I attached her routine below. It’s so different and impossible to do today because of how far apart the bars are today. Also with the new scoring system the days of perfect 10’s are no longer a possibility. But we will never forget the 14-year-old Nadia who was the first to achieve such a high honor.

Nadia is still involved in gymnastics, read more about her here.

Michael Phelps – United States

Michael Phelps – United States

Michael Phelps 16 Olympic medals. I really don’t need to say any more about Michael Phelps. If you don’t know who he is, I really can’t help you. Google him.

Larissa Latynina – Soviet Union

Larisa Latynina – Soviet Union

Larissa Latynia is arguably the best athlete in the history of the Olympics. She holds 18 total medals, more Olympic medals than any other competitor in any sport, and was responsible for establishing the Soviet Union as the dominant force in gymnastics.  She also holds the record for most individual medals (14 outside of team events) in Olympic history.

Usain Bolt – Jamaica

Usain Bolt – Jamaica

Again, you should know all about this man. He is the world record and Olympic record holder in the 100 meters, the 200 meters and (along with his teammates) the 4×100 meters relay.

I also have a soft spot in my heart for this man because the husband and I went to Jamaica for our honeymoon in 2009 one year after his famous Olympic debut and this guy’s face was all over the place. On cups, flags, ash trays (weird) so he reminds me of our honeymoon.

Usain Bolt will be fun to watch in London – and if you go to his website you will see why.

2012 Summer Olympics (Part 1)

20 Jul

Holy crap! I am so excited! I love the Olympics! Love love love them!!!

And guess what? They are in exactly one week!

YAY!!!!!!

I am so excited!!

So here is some fun Olympic stuff:

To vote for the all-time best Olympic moment go to this link. It’s also fun to relive some of the great moments throughout the games.

Below are some videos I found that list what they believe are the top Olympic moments.

I will admit the music is cheesy and the narrator could be a little more excited – but all his comments are spot on and he picked the perfect moments!

The only one he missed is Kerri Strug’s famous vault!! Which I have included below.

Enjoy!

Sports, Olympics, NBA and funny look alikes!

15 May

I love sports!

Yes – it’s a fact – and a happy fact for my husband! I love and would like to think I  am knowledgeable in sports. Thanks to my Dad, brother, husband and father-in-law. I know a lot more than I should about sports. I should really refocus my knowledge of sports facts, rules and trivia to make-up and fashion. But – I grew up in a household who worshiped the Dallas Cowboys, Michael Jordan, Emit Smith the 1996 US Gymnastic team (Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Dominique Dawes, Kerri Strug, Amy Chow, Amanda Borden and Jaycie Phelps or better known as The Magnificent 7)

I kid you not – my brother Nick and I spent the day I was supposed to celebrate my college graduation watching the NFL Draft. We were very concerned where Matt Leinart would end up and we were late to my party! But that is one of my favorite memories!

So I LOVE sports – not all sports – I don’t care for baseball unless I am actually at a baseball park, but even then it’s the people food and atmosphere not the actual sport. I don’t know much about Tennis(although I wish I did), any sailing or rowing type sports – I live in the desert! I know nothing about NASCAR, Formula 1 or race car crap, if you consider that race car crap a sport.

So in honor of the NBA Playoffs – which I made a ridiculous bet with my Father-In-Law that includes the LA Clippers going further in the playoffs than the Boston Celtics (which sucks because I LOVE the Celtics, I was counting on the Bulls to knock out the Celtics in the second round and Chauncey Billups was a healthy man when this bet was made) oh well – I have included a fun look alike photo gallery for your enjoyment. Even if you don’t love basketball (weird) you will enjoy these odd players and their movie star twins!

Enjoy!
