I can’t believe I have not done this sooner! I am a horrible person! I have a wonderful family and menagerie and I would like to share them with the world!
What can I say he is amazing! He is an artist and works at a children’s museum in Albuquerque called Explora. We were best friends in high school and started dating in college and got married after college! He is great!!
Tootse was our first pet. She was a present for my 20th birthday. She was Shane’s first cat and my 200th. Seriously I grew up in the country and came very close to bringing a rattle snake inside the house for a pet. Thank god I was a lazy little girl and thought I would get the snake after I was done swinging. The snake was later shot L and my mom got 20 cats the next day. And you know – those cats had cats and so on. But we lived in the country and they had a lot of space to hang out and we made them cubbies to live in.
Anyway – I LOVE cats and have always been very fond of them. My cat Minnie is turning 20 this year – she lives with my mom in the country. But she is strictly an inside cat.
Back to Tootse, she is a bitch. She hates all other animals and loves humans. She has recently put on some weight but she could care less. She is the epitome of a cat – and I love her!
Two days after we got Tootse Shane wanted another cat so he got her brother who we named Floyd because he was pink. Floyd was the best cat – EVERYONE LOVED him! Floyd was a cuddlier and a lover. He had the best personality.
In 2011 he had a rare heart problem that he miraculously recovered from. A couple weeks after we got the “all clear” from the vet we noticed a lump on his throat. We took him to the vet and he had cancer. A very rare form of cancer only dogs get, which he would. Unfortunately the cancer got the best of him and we had to put him down on July, 26 2011. That will always be one of the hardest things I have ever had to do and go through. He will be forever missed and I can’t wait to see him again waiting on the Rainbow Bridge. Don’t know what that is click here .
So I have this habit of collecting stray pets. I will stop anywhere and everywhere if I see an animal on the road or somewhere alone.
We found Fred after returning a stray dog we found to the humane society (he had a chip and a family) We saw Fred and thought she loved us because she threw herself at the door of her cage.
I also want to note that I also love handicap animals and Fred won me over because she only had three legs. So extra points for her!
Turns out Fred didn’t really love us she was just crazy. She was running around her cage but had no balance on account of the three legs and what we took for excitement was really Fred crashing. We named HER Fred because she kept clawing me on the ride home and I called her Freddy Cougar!
She dislikes most men and has a love of food. And since she only has three legs, she does not get a lot of exercise so she is a fatty. But I love the little nugget!
Grey Cat and Boo Boo
We didn’t get Grey Cat she got us. She came into our backyard one day and never left. Shane and I would say “Look there is that grey cat again” and the name stuck. She slowly worked her way into the house and into our lives. When we first started letting her inside with our other cats I took her to the vet to make sure she was not secretly a zombie cat. She was fine with the exception of her eyes. Her eyes always looked a little weird and the vet told us it was because she had no eyelids. And like I said I am a sucker for animals with missing body parts so I knew it was meant to be.
Well grey cat was our only inside outside cat and one day she came home knocked up. I know what a little slut! She had four kittens on our bed on my birthday. We found homes for all her kittens and my dad inherited one. The best one Boo Boo – who we also inherited this year.
In 2005 we decided we needed a dog. At this point Shane needed an animal he could run with and rough house with. The point of Bruce was so Shane would stop bugging meJ We found a Mexican family in El Paso with the cutest boxer puppies ever! And Bruce was the only one who didn’t pee when the family let them in. Bruce was the first animal I had ever paid for – well I think we paid. The family we got him from didn’t speak English and we didn’t speak Spanish very well so I just might be a dognapper!
Bruce is the smartest dog ever. I swear he understands what we are saying. He loves to sleep in with us on weekends go to work with Shane during the week and long walks in the Bosque. He is the perfect dog except for his teeth which don’t fit in his mouth!
We moved to Albuquerque and bought a house in 2008! Our friends wanted to get a boxer like Bruce and they found a family who had boxers. We went to see the puppies and ended up leaving with one. We got a white female boxer and named her Rhonda. She is the cutest dog ever but where Bruce is a genius she is not so smart. She is obsessed with lights, food and Bruce. She farts and snores – we had to get her a special bowl so she would not eat too fast and fart all day and night!
So that’s it – that is my family.
Shane, Tootse, Fred, Grey Cat, Boo Boo, Bruce and Rhonda.
My brother Nick lives with us too! He is our animal sitter when we are out of town, rent payer and sober driver when I drink too much – he will also pick you up from jail at any hour of the night – more on that later…
So now when I mention or put endless pictures of my human and animal family on this blog you will know who I am talking about.
