11th Date of Christmas

17 Jan

Ok sorry this is getting drawn out but I don’t want to leave you hanging and I am almost done.

So although nothing could top the 10th date of Christmas I took Shane on our 11th Date of Christmas which was my morning date. We both wanted to do this but I scheduled it first!

The Zoo in Albuquerque is awesome! And every year around the holidays they give some of the animals presents with food and toys in them so they can open them. They even open the Zoo early so it’s more of a special event.

I took Shane to the Zoo to watch the animals open presents!  We got there super early so we could see all the animals (gorillas, orangutans, cats and elephants got presents) but it was so cold only the cats got the presents.

Next year we won’t get up so early to go unless it’s unseasonably warm. They won’t let the gorillas and orangutans out unless it’s above freezing.

The cats were fun to watch open presents but not as fun as the gorillas and orangutans! Those gorillas LOVED the presents . They had popcorn balls and paper and other fun treats for them on the inside. One gorilla would eat all the popcorn, then throw it up in her hand and eat it again! It was like the never-ending treat!! And sooo gross.

If you live in Albuquerque I highly suggest you visit the animals when they get presents next year.

After the Zoo we had brunch at the cutest most delicious restaurant! It’s called Farm and Table. And everything they make they grow or get locally! Even the milk! It was delicious! And we were lucky enough to run into a friend from high school who gave us a free treat!

Shane had  the Farmers’ Quiche – Made with seasonal vegetables, local eggs, and cheese, served with breakfast potatoes and bacon. I had the Poached eggs over grilled baguette and we split a cinnamon roll. We got a free Churro from our friend Joe.

Yumm so tasty!

7th Date of Christmas

20 Dec

On the 7th date of Christmas Shane made me dinner and we watched the best Christmas movie EVER!

We watched Home Alone which is one of the best Christmas movies EVER! Now don’t get me wrong White Christmas will always be my favorite Christmas movie but Home Alone is second!

And every time I watch home alone I always crave a cheese pizza and mac cheese! Which is exactly what Shane made me.

Now you have to understand that Shane makes the best mac cheese EVER! And my wonderful friend Michelle gave me some penguin pasta so Shane made mac cheese with penguin pasta.  Then we had ice cream!

Best night ever!!!

Click here are some fun trivia facts you might not have known about Home Alone

6th Date of Christmas

19 Dec

On the 6th date of Christmas Shane and I had a “Stay at Home Date” – this was originally supposed to be a “Get out of the House” date…. But Shane and I are natural homebodies and it was cold out so we decided to stay home decorate the tree and eat junk food. It was raining and windy and it was the perfect day to snuggle up and make relax.

We put on Elf (which I think is one of the best newer Christmas movies and will someday be a classic) and I handed Shane ornaments for and he put them on the tree.  It was a great and cozy day!

It’s the Small Things

2 Nov

This week I am grateful for so many things but I feel a little selfish since because so many people are without electricity the comfort of their homes or even their home. Hurricane Sandy left her mark along the east coast and in Haiti so here is a link to give to the relief of the families, people and animals she hurt.

Every year the husband’s parents and brother and sis come over to carve pumpkins. My brother joins if he does not have to work. This year Shane and I had about 12 pumpkins and although my pumpkin was the toughest bastard ever and didn’t want to be cut (Shane had to use a drill on it) I managed.

I also had to decorate a pumpkin for work. I did two because one was a little easy. I came in second place with the hedgehog! But no one voted for my pumpkin pi:(

The husband and I love Halloween and since the husband is an awesome artist he decorates the hose so cool for Halloween!

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and new Traditions

9 Oct

This weekend was the beginning of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.

The Balloon Fiesta is a BIG deal! People travel all over the world to experience the festivities. And most people who grew up in New Mexico have some fun memories of the Balloon Fiesta.

I remember bundling up as a little kid and driving all the way to Albuquerque from the “country” to see the Balloons. One year my mom didn’t take us into the actual Balloon Park, she let us pick a balloon and we drove all around Albuquerque following the Balloon! I also have fond memories of staying up all night with my friend Jacquelyn and deciding since we were up might as well go get a burrito and see some balloons.

This year, the husband and I started a new tradition! Like I said the Balloon Fiesta is a big deal! So because of all the people who come to see and experience the festivities, there is a lot of traffic and lines and well people. So, since I am not always a fan of traffic or lines the husband and I decided to do something different.

We decided we would wake up early, get some breakfast burritos and find a spot to park and watch all the balloons.

I set my alarm for 6:30 Saturday morning and checked Twitter and Facebook to see if the Balloons were given the OK to fly. Annnnddd they were not. They were officially grounded because of high winds. So I rolled over and went back to sleep. Same thing Sunday but they were given the green light. So we loaded up the dogs, got some delicious breakfast burritos from Lotta Burger and did a little off-roading to find a great spot. Bruce and Rhonda ran around and Shane and I watched balloons. It was wonderful!

Can’t wait to do it again next year.

What are some of your favorite Balloon Fiesta traditions?

It’s The Small Things

7 Sep

Sometimes I think we all need to take a moment and appreciate all the small things that are going good in our lives. They often get overlooked by the bigger things that are going well and they always get overlooked or forgotten by the things that suck.

So, in an effort to be more grateful and appreciative of life – a new hobby if you will – I want to take some time each week and give a shout out to the good things in life.

Here we go –

Pumpkin flavored drinks

I have not made it to Starbucks to get the Pumpkin Latte yet but I have had the delicious Harvest Pumpkin Ale! Yummmm!!!

Homemade meals by candlelight

The husband and I celebrated the end of a long weekend with steaks, salad and wine outside on the table the husband made by candlelight! Fun, romantic and special!

Homemade posole

Posole is one of my favorite meals ever! I made some this weekend with red chile! Yummm

Rhonda getting her faced clean

This girl gets so dirty! She is always digging or just sticking her face in the dirt so she is always a mess. We (meaning Shane) are always cleaning her face so she doesn’t scare people away!

Bruce

He is the best! His face is always usually clean.
