Series Worth Your Time

21 Nov

So more books for you and your reading pleasure.

I love love love reading series of books because I get so invested in the book and the characters and their stories. Here are a couple series I am really enjoying.

Both are mysteries and about cops. And they both take place in Europe. I don’t know why I love to read about cops solving crimes in the UK and Ireland. I also LOVE Sophie Hannah’s books which are along the same lines – but she is my favorite.

Tana French

The first book in this series is In The Woods. It has won a lot of awards including the Edgar Award for best first book. This book is not scary but a mystery and there are a couple different mysteries in this book. I liked this book – it’s great and a fast read.

What Tana French does is introduce us to the main character for her next book. So in her next book The Likeness – the main character is introduced in the first book and so on. The second book in my opinion was A LOT better than the first book. And the third book, Faithful Place, is better than the second. I have not read the fourth book, Broken Harbor, but it’s on my Christmas list and I can’t wait.

These are such great mysteries and the characters are easy to like and hate. Tana French also makes you feel like you are in Dublin and part of the culture there. She paints such a realistic vision of the good and bad of the cities I feel like I need to start saying Shyte, Eejit and Feck.

The first book in this series is The Burning. I really enjoyed this book! It’s told from multiple people’s points of view and has multiple murders and mysteries. Again it’s fast paced and a great mystery.

I have not read the second book, The Reckoning, but I bought it and will relax with that this Thanksgiving break.

This book will keep you guessing and keep you intrigued.

Hmmm…I didn’t really like In The Woods. I was so frustrated with the characters – I think it was the male character I was really annoyed with. It’s a wonder I finished the book at all.

I was not his biggest fan and the ending made me mad. However, the second book is all about his female partner. He’s not in it at all and the ending is satisfying.

Let me know what you think!
