Reading Relaxes Me

6 Apr

As I have previously said I love to read! Reading is my number one hobby and always will be! When I was little I was always reading. It could be because I lived in a small town and there was nothing else to do (I didn’t play video games) or because my mom told me she would ALWAYS buy me a book if I asked, so I thought I might as well take advantage of that. I went through my R.L. Stine, Christopher Pike, and Lurlene McDaniel phases. I could not put them down or get enough of them!

But at some point between Middle school and High school – I lost my passion to read. Then one magical night between my freshmen and sophomore year of college, I could not sleep. So my dad handed me a book told me to read it.  He said that the book was really good and I would love it. That book changed my and brought back the passion I had for reading. That book was Harry Potter! I know sounds silly but I will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart for the Harry Potter series. That book lead to midnight book releases parties -which I went to alone at first until I made my husband, then boyfriend start reading Harry Potter and he fell in love too. That book lead to many great friendships struck over Harry Potter discussions and midnight movie viewings, Halloween costumes and so much more! I truly owe my renewed love of reading to Harry Potter, J. K. Rowling and my dad.

So after that long winded explanation, I want to share with you the books I am currently reading and love.

I finished The Paris Wife which is about Hadley Hemingway, Ernest Hemingway’s first wife and love of his life. The book was an easy read and I loved it! Like I said before – I read for pleasure. So, I basically know nothing of Earnest Hemingway’s life. This did not matter in regards to this book. I will admit I looked up a lot of the names in the book on my phone and Nook and it gave me a little more insight to the life and times they were experiencing in Paris. This book gave me an appreciation for the Hemingway’s and that “Lost Generation.”   I recommend it to anyone who loves Paris, Romance and a beautiful insight into the history of Paris in the early 1900s.

I am currently reading the Meridian Sozu series by Amber Kizer – I’ll let you know what I think!

Run Josa Run!

6 Apr

So I know it’s been awhile since I said I was going to start running as my first hobby. So I wanted to give you an update.

I just started.

Thanks to a horrible case of allergies – I literally could not breathe, smell or see. My eyes were swollen, my nose was leaking and my head was killing me. After a lot medication, a random snow storm in New Mexico (thanks mother nature for killing/clearing the pollen in the air) I was able to run!

And thanks to my beautiful friend Paula, who introduced me to the Couch 2 5K app on my phone – I started running today!

It went well – and was believe it or not relaxing! Soon, well according to this app, I should be able to run a 5K in six weeks! And most importantly survive the zombie apocalypse!

A 5K was not my original goal or plan – I just need an active hobby – but it’s a good goal. I have believe it or not ran a 5K only once before and finishing it was an amazing feeling. So I guess this will turn into a hobby/goal umm hopefully! I shall keep you updated on the running and any other new hobby/habits I try!
